HHCP is committed to helping our caregivers find a career pathway and personal growth. We are driving change in the senior care industry by providing an avenue for employers to provide their caregivers with career advancement opportunities.
Our participants are direct caregivers at veterans homes, nursing homes and home health agencies in the southeast. They have the most direct contact with patients and are essential to providing quality care. These employees are one of the most influential and integral staff members. Their direct contact with patients allows them to recognize potential problems before anyone else. The job is physically and mentally demanding with little opportunity for career advancement and better pay.
Career halt is a frustration that many caregivers experience in senior healthcare. It is extremely difficult for them to advance in senior care without additional training or education. The demanding daily work combined with low pay inhibits a caregiver’s economic mobility. This kind of stagnation, coupled with the difficult nature of caring for the elderly, is one of the primary driving forces behind the high turnover rates in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities. Employees are more likely to stay at their workplace when they can envision a future and find role models who care about their success.
Our participants are eager to find a career pathway but don’t have the economic ability, resources, or access to education. Often, they do not have the life skills or confidence to approach the process of self-improvement. Each participant’s training and development is based on their needs. Upskilling is a process that requires money, time, and commitment.
Our goal is to facilitate access to education, help overcome barriers and challenges to career development, and provide mentorship to strengthen their life skills during their journey of self-improvement. Through mentorship programs, we empower and embrace the changes in their lives and help them thrive in the community. We help build a stronger, better-skilled, and more dependable workforce that positively impacts patients, families, employers, and community.
In The Words of Our Caregivers:
-
“I wanted to be a caregiver so that I could help others. Being able to be a part of this program I will be able to further my initial goal of becoming a nurse. I have started school in the past but life got in the way, where I had to stop and take care of someone else. It is now time for me to take care of myself and go after what I want and need for my life. I love to help others and this program will allow for me to do so."

"*I want to finish what I started* My reason for doing this program is simple. I LOVE PEOPLE. I want to be able to complete this program and give back. I have the chance to do school and work around my schedule. It's really hard to find a job that will help with reaching your goals. I'm really excited about finishing what I started years ago"
